About Liv
Autistic Woman. Lawyer. Neurodiversity Advocate. Crochet Aficionado. Novice Knitter. Yarn Addict.
Hi, I'm Liv and I'm a late-diagnosed Autistic Woman with Adhd. I’m a crochet pattern technical editor and the founder and moderator of NeuroStitches.
After receiving my Autism diagnosis, I quickly learned there are not many resources available to neurodiverse individuals. I found a virtual, weekly Autism peer support group that changed my life. It was the first time I ever heard other people sharing experiences that were exactly like mine, experiences that I previously thought were only unique to me and made me weird or quirky. The feeling of finding your people, your tribe, is invaluable.
When the moderator stopped offering the sessions, I didn’t want to lose that sense of community and connection. I also noticed that there were a lot of other neurodiverse crocheters and knitters. I’ve been crocheting since I was a child and is one of my stims. I wanted to combine the two concepts to form a group of neurodivergent folks who connect through fiber arts. NeuroStitches was born!
Through NeuroStitches, I also want to educate and raise awareness about the pervasive discrimination against Autistics in the workplace. After I received my Autism diagnosis, I requested reasonable accommodations from my employer. Instead of meeting with me or discussing the request, I was fired illegally. Thankfully, I was able to settle without going to court. I share my story with other Autistics, so they know there are remedies available when they experience employment discrimination.
I love talking about the good and the bad about life on the Spectrum and a lot on my special interests including my dogs, cats, books, crochet, knitting, yarn, hiking, Taylor Swift, and landscape photography. I’m so excited about this community and I hope you’ll consider joining!
NeuroStitches is free to join and relies on pay-what-you-can contributions to keep the community free & open to all.
